Culture-wise, life in Kampala is not very experimental
. The cinema only shows predictable Hollywood movies (I just watched ‘Cowboys and Aliens, with a very old Harrison Ford, painfully bad), discotheques play ‘the hits’ over and over, and the only museum in town faces extinction.
Therefore, and for many other reasons, ‘Poetry in Session’, the monthly gathering of spoken word and poetry artists in the capital, is a gem. I wrote an article and produced a video about the event for the Africa Desk.
